Clinical Specialty

Language Acquisition & Functional Communication

One of our greatest clinical strengths is helping children develop meaningful language and functional communication skills. Our BCBAs use evidence-based verbal behavior programming and functional communication training to build individualized communication programs for children at every level — from children who are not yet speaking to those developing advanced conversation skills.

Teaching early requesting skills (mands)
Developing expressive language and increasing spontaneous verbal communication
Teaching children to label objects, people, actions, and experiences
Building receptive language and understanding spoken instructions
Developing imitation and early verbal behavior skills
Teaching children to answer questions and participate in conversations
Increasing independent communication and reducing reliance on prompts
Teaching children to initiate communication with family members, peers, and others
Supporting AAC and alternative communication systems when appropriate
Generalizing communication skills across home, school, and community environments

Treatment is individualized according to each child's current communication abilities, learning needs, and family priorities. Whether your child is not yet speaking, uses a limited number of words, or struggles to initiate communication, our BCBAs develop a program tailored to their unique profile.
