Learn, Practice, and Connect

At NY Center for Autism Treatment, we believe that parent involvement is one of the most powerful factors in a child's progress. ABA therapy doesn't stop when the session ends — the strategies your child's BCBA uses every day can be extended throughout your home, your routines, and your community. Our monthly parent training workshops are designed to give you the knowledge, skills, and confidence to do exactly that.

Each workshop is led by one of our Board Certified Behavior Analysts and focuses on a specific topic relevant to families raising children with autism. Sessions are practical and hands-on — not just lectures. You'll leave with concrete strategies you can implement immediately, alongside other parents who understand what your family is navigating.

Our workshops are open to all families we serve, as well as families in the broader autism community who are looking for professional guidance and peer support. No prior ABA experience is required — just a commitment to your child's growth.

Curriculum

Workshop Topics

Our monthly workshops rotate through a range of clinically relevant topics. Each session is led by a BCBA and tailored to the questions and challenges families bring to the room.

Language and Communication

Communication

Learn how to support your child's language development at home using the same verbal behavior strategies our BCBAs use in therapy. Topics include building requesting skills, expanding vocabulary, encouraging spontaneous communication, and supporting children who use AAC devices or picture exchange systems.

Toilet Training

Daily Living

One of the most common challenges for families — and one of the most impactful skills to teach. This workshop covers evidence-based toilet training protocols, how to assess readiness, how to set up a structured training schedule, and how to troubleshoot common obstacles.

Decreasing Maladaptive Behaviors

Behavior Support

Understand why challenging behaviors occur and what to do about them. This workshop covers functional behavior assessment concepts, how to identify the function of a behavior, and how to implement antecedent strategies, differential reinforcement, and extinction procedures safely at home.

Generalizing Skills Across Settings

Skill Building

Skills learned in therapy need to transfer to school, the community, and everyday life. This workshop teaches parents how to program for generalization — varying environments, people, and materials so your child's skills become truly functional and flexible.

Reinforcement and Motivation

ABA Foundations

Reinforcement is the engine of ABA therapy — and parents can use it powerfully at home. Learn how to identify what motivates your child, how to use reinforcement effectively without creating dependence, and how to build motivation for learning throughout the day.

Sleep and Routine Challenges

Daily Living

Sleep difficulties are common in children with autism and affect the whole family. This workshop addresses evidence-based strategies for establishing bedtime routines, reducing sleep-related challenging behaviors, and building predictable daily schedules that support regulation.

Supporting Social Skills at Home

Social Skills

Learn how to create opportunities for social skill practice in natural settings — at home, in the neighborhood, and in the community. Topics include turn-taking, play skills, peer interaction, and how to coach your child through social situations without over-prompting.

Navigating School and IEPs

Advocacy

Understanding your child's rights, how to advocate effectively at IEP meetings, and how to collaborate with school teams to ensure ABA strategies are carried over into the classroom. This workshop helps parents become informed, confident advocates for their child's education.

Workshop topics rotate monthly. Contact us to find out which topic is coming up next and to reserve your spot.

Community

More Than a Workshop — A Community

One of the most valuable parts of our parent workshops is the community you become part of. Raising a child with autism can feel isolating — but in our workshops, you're surrounded by parents who share your experiences, your questions, and your determination.

Our workshops bring together families from across the five boroughs alongside our clinical team of BCBAs and behavior therapists. You'll have the opportunity to ask questions, share what's working, and learn from the experiences of other families who are navigating the same journey.

Beyond the workshops themselves, being part of the NY Center for Autism Treatment community means access to our clinical team's expertise between sessions, connections with other families, and the reassurance that you are never navigating the autism world alone.

Learn from BCBAs

Every workshop is led by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst — the same clinical professionals who design and supervise your child's ABA therapy program.

Connect with Other Parents

Build relationships with other families who understand your experience. Share strategies, ask questions, and find support from people who are walking the same path.

Practical, Actionable Skills

Every workshop is designed to give you strategies you can use immediately — not just theory. You'll leave each session with concrete tools for your home and daily routines.

Ongoing Access to Expertise

As part of our community, you have access to our clinical team's guidance beyond the workshop room — because supporting your family is a year-round commitment.

How It Works

Workshop Format

Monthly Sessions

Workshops are held monthly, with each session covering a new topic. Families can attend individual sessions or participate regularly throughout the year.

Led by a BCBA

Every workshop is facilitated by one of our Board Certified Behavior Analysts, ensuring the content is clinically accurate, evidence-based, and directly applicable to your child's needs.

Small Group Setting

Sessions are kept intentionally small to allow for questions, discussion, and personalized guidance. This is not a lecture — it's a conversation.

Open to All Families

Workshops are open to all families we serve, as well as families in the broader autism community. No prior ABA experience is required to attend.
